Barriers and access – the semester project “moving_society”

02/05/2024

Under the direction of Peter Eckart and Daniel Rese, students develop design solutions for objects and spaces that support every form of mobility: giving people a sense of security and freedom, enabling them to move seamlessly and without obstacles through public spaces – inclusively and universally.
The design of access and barriers is a fundamental task in every area of design, including the digital space. Barriers can promote access and offer protection at the same time, even if that seems paradoxical. The project aims to create designs that foster a vibrant and inclusive environment in which all people can move safely and freely, regardless of their individual abilities or limitations. Through a positively designed infrastructure, we want to strengthen the sense of belonging and community while promoting the mobility of all.
Special highlight: the keynote speech by Anja Zeller (Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Institute for Transport Systems and Infrastructure) on accessibility in urban areas. As an expert, she is involved in numerous research projects on this topic and was available to answer students’ questions.
