Conference “Designing Transitions”

10/03/2026

As part of World Design Capital (WDC), the conference on intermodal mobility design, “Designing Transitions,” took place on March 6 in the auditorium of the Offenbach University of Art and Design (HfG). Under the motto “How do we connect what is already running?”, workshops and lectures addressed the question of how mobility can be rethought—not only technically, but also from a human perspective.

A central focus was on combining existing public transport services such as local public transport and sharing systems with new ideas and visions for the future. Christoph Overs (Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW) and Weert Canzler (WZB – Berlin Social Science Center) provided exciting impulses and input from practice and accompanying research on intermodal mobility. Sabine Groß, Mayor of Offenbach, gave a welcoming speech, and Max Klose moderated the day.

The conference was organized by the team of the “InterMoDe – Designing the Municipal Intermodal Mobility System” project at the Offenbach Institute for Mobility Design (OIMD). A review of the conference, including slides from keynote speeches and workshop contributions, will be published on the conference website in the coming days.
