// Institute

Since January 2023, the Offenbach Institute for Mobility Design (OIMD) at the HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design has bundled the research and teaching focus on mobility of the Professorships of Integrative Design and Urban Design. Under the leadership of Professors Peter Eckart and Kai Vöckler, designers develop methods and concepts for human-centered and sustainable mobility design, in research and application projects as well as in academic teaching. They cooperate with researchers from other disciplines and universities, with municipalities and authorities, with transport companies and architecture and design offices.

The establishment of the institute builds on many years of profiling mobility design at the HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design. In particular, the interdisciplinary, cross-university research cluster »Infrastructure – Design – Society«, funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art from 2018 to 2022 as part of the LOEWE research funding programme under the leadership of HfG Offenbach, provided the impetus for institutionalization. In the meantime, the institute has also moved to new premises in the »Kubus« building, Berliner Straße 75 in Offenbach.

If possible, please visit us by public transportation:

The S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S8 and S9 run between Offenbach and Frankfurt/Wiesbaden/Niedernhausen or Offenbach and Hanau/Dietzenbach/Rödermark-Ober Roden. Get off at the station OF-Marktplatz. You can take either exit, both are directly on Berliner Straße (the OIMD is right in between, short walk), the »Marktplatz« exit has an elevator. Many bus lines from the surrounding area stop at the bus stops OF-Zentrum/Rathaus and OF-Zentrum/Marktplatz, from both stations it is a short walk to the OIMD.

We also recommend traveling by bike via the cycle path along the banks of the Main to Schlossstraße, through Schlossstraße to Berliner Straße. There are bicycle rental stations (Call-a-Bike) and covered parking spaces near the OIMD.

Sometimes there are also good reasons to come by car: You can reach Offenbach via the A661 freeway. The Französisches Gässchen parking garage is located at the back of our building and closes at 10 p.m. on weekdays.
