Making mobility visible

CO2 emissions, noise, particulate matter, stress, land sealing – motorized individual transport is a central problem in the Rhine-Main region. How can the complex interrelationships of spatial mobility with its effects on people and the environment be visualized in such a way that they become comprehensible? Students at the HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design explored this question in the seminar “Making Mobility Visible”. They collected basic information on mobility in Germany and the region as well as on the connection between transport and environmental pollution, processed it and visualized it in information graphics.

The principles developed were adapted to Austrian conditions with a focus on the Graz region in an online workshop in collaboration with Fabian Walmüller (Stoiser Walmüller Architects). The results were made accessible to the public in form of an exhibition at Club Hybrid in Graz.
