In the heart of Offenbach, directly in front of the town hall, is the radraum, a meeting place for citizens, designers and local and national players in the bicycle industry. The radraum is dedicated to the bicycle as an ideal and sustainable means of transportation for urban areas. It offers a DIY repair studio, holds workshops, organizes lectures and much more. The public events and joint cycle tours in the region are carried out in cooperation with Massif Central and guilty76 from Frankfurt and the sunnosun cycling club from Offenbach, among others – regional networking, knowledge transfer and cycling culture combined in the heart of the Rhine-Main region. Currently on offer:
radWORK – Self-repair equipment for bicycle repairs with support from the radraum team
radTALK – Selected presentations by experts from the bicycle industry on lifestyle, the development of the bicycle market, communities and cycling as a mindset
radTOUR – Planned rides for cycling enthusiasts of all abilities. Different formats are offered.
With its services, radraum creates a basis for promoting sustainable mobility and developing sustainable mobility concepts and strategies for the region. For its future operation, the project is supported and funded by the Offenbach University of Art and Design, the Offenbach Institute for Mobility Design, the City of Offenbach and its Agentur Mitte and Offenbach Offensiv e.V..

How it all began
The radraum as a project space for students was launched in 2022/23 by the Integrative Design teaching area by Designers Daniel Rese and Professor Peter Eckart. The semester project dealt with the facets of bicycle mobility and bicycle culture: the bicycle as a piece of sports equipment, as a companion in everyday life and when traveling or the culture-shaping effect of bicycle mobility in urban areas. In addition to a do-it-yourself repair studio with the necessary tools for repairing bicycles, work-shops, public wrenching events, lectures and regular public evening events as well as ride events took place in the radraum, which were supervised by the Offenbach-based SunNoSun club for racing bike enthusiasts. There were no limits to the resulting semester projects: the design of a new bike, a »bike club evening«, a bike magazine, a service, a special tool, clothing accessories for everyday cyclists, components from the 3D printer or the conversion of a bike – anything was possible.
